Main Street Gazette - When Be Our Guest opened to the public in late 2012, there is a great big hullabaloo about the fact that it was going to serve alcohol. Since the park opened in 1971, the argument stated, there had never been alcohol available for consumption inside the Magic Kingdom. I guess the ‘consumption’ part is the key to the entire situation, because there has always been alcohol tucked away in the quiet corners of the park. Let’s explore, shall we?Let’s start out in Tomorrowland, where the robotic servant h... Read more

Main Street Gazette - Imbibing is, for the most part, a social experience in Walt Disney World. In Epcot you can drink around the world or huddle together with friends in La Cava del Tequila. Port Orleans Riverside hosts Yehaa Bob in what can only be described as an interactive experience that almost certainly requires an adult beverage. But where do you go, and what do you order when you want to sit down, relax and let the hustle and bustle of Walt Disney World just melt away? You’ve heard me sing the praises of Sanaa quite a ... Main Street Gazette - If there is one thing that changes in Walt Disney World more than the parks, it would have to be the food. We all have favorite dishes that we’d love to see stay on a given menu, or spread to other menus so we can have it more often, forever, but that’s not the nature of the culinary cabaret that is Walt Disney World dining. Even the most mundane item, like chicken fingers, isn’t safe from revamping.Since the Vacation Kingdom opened its doors, guests have been able to request recipes of their favorite... Read more

Main Street Gazette - Happy fifteenth anniversary Disney’s Animal Kingdom! Five years ago today, I got to sit in the Theater in the Wild and listen to Joe Rohde speak with Cast Members and a selection of guests about Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It still stands today as one of my most treasured Disney experiences. Back then, not a lot of people knew about the Main Street Gazette, so not many people got to see the transcript of the event I posted, so I am going to reprint it today. As I did then, I want to apologize for the tra... Read more

Main Street Gazette - There are a ridiculous number of art and artifacts to marvel at inside the halls of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village. With such a grand view to take in upon immediately entering the Kidani Village lobby, many guests pass by the first and perhaps most incredible of these art pieces. Just inside the entranceway, perched upon a table, is the Asante Clock. The Asante Clock was commissioned by Walt Disney Imagineering expressly for the villas known as Kidani Village. The clock was created using ... Read more

Main Street Gazette - There has been a lot written about turkey legs and their brand new Fantasyland cousin, the pork shank. While they both appear to be hand-held portable slabs of meat, perfect for eating on the go, the pork shank found at Gaston’s Tavern isn’t as portable as it seems, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t give it a fair shake.Let’s start with some of the drawbacks of the shank. The pork shank is not as lean as other cuts of pork, such as loin, but it isn’t supposed to be. There is going to fat attach... Read more

Main Street Gazette - If you’re a fan of pageantry, then you would have loved the grand opening of Disney’s Animal Kingdom! On April 21, 1998, a day before the park’s official opening, opening ceremonies were held.
